The following dog bite statistics are reported for 2010:

•    33 fatal dog attacks occurred in 2010, with pit bulls and Rottweilers accounting for 79% of the fatal attacks.
•    61% of dog attacks occurred to children, with 75% of the attacks on children occurring to children ages 4 and under.
•    The vast majority of fatal dog attacks – approximately 73% -  involved attacks by family dogs, with nearly all of the attacks (88%) occurring on the dog owner’s property.
•    Illinois, along with Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, had the third most fatal dog attacks with two deaths in 2010, behind California with seven and Florida with three fatalities.
